CIS INAUGURATES NEW ASSESSOR

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers on Wednesday, 21st September 2011 inaugurated Justice Adesola Oguntade, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, as the Legal Assessor of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Institute in Lagos.

The Disciplinary Tribunal is one of the mechanisms the Institute uses to regulate the conduct of its members.

The Institute, with proactive management is determined to review the processes of regulating the conduct  of its members in order to restore investors’ confidence in the Nigerian capital market and in doing this decided to re-position the Disciplinary Tribunal for speedy dispensation of the cases before it and making its directions credible and watertight.

To achieve this, the management of CIS guided by the statue that established it, requested the Attorney General for the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke, to nominate Legal Assessor for the Institute.

The Tribunal has a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) as a prosecutor.

Justice Adesola Oguntade is a law graduate of HOLBORN College of Law, London and was called to the Nigerian Bar in January 1966., He was appointed justice of the Court of Appeal in September 1987and served in various judicial divisions of the Court. In September 1995, he became the presiding justice of the Court of Appeal in Jos, Lagos and Abuja divisions until May 2004 when he was elevated as a justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He retired in March 2009.
